JAMMU, Jan 18: Joint Employees Coordination Committee (JECC) of NHM, RNTCP, NACO and other schemes of health services further extended their State-wide protest cum strike for another 144 hrs while as some employees in Srinagar burnt their degrees/certificates as a mark of protest.
Addressing the media persons at Press Enclave, Srinagar, where NHM employees are protesting from last 30 days, spokesperson of JECC, Abdul Rouf, said that they have decided to further extend their strike upto January 24 and put pressure on the Government to fulfill their demands. He said that they will not abandon their struggle midway and take it to logical conclusion.
On the statement of Health Minister in the Assembly that a four-member committee has been framed for NHM employees, he said the Minister is totally wrong and is misleading the Assembly as well as general public, as no such new committee has been framed.
He said that previous committee which was framed in the month of March after 15 days of strike of NHM employees has already submitted its reports to the department but no action till date has been taken by the Government on the same report. “If Government fails to address our genuine issues at an earliest we will intensify our protest by each coming day”, he added.
Meanwhile, scores of employees from different districts, including doctors, paramedical staff and technicians of the Health Department who are working on contractual basis under NHM and other services reached Pratap Park and burnt their certificates alleging that Government has devalued their degrees by turning a deaf ear to their issues.
In Jammu, employees of NHM and other schemes continued their protest on 30th consecutive day near Press Club, where while addressing the protesting employees, Rohit Seth, president, NHM Employees’ Association, said that they went from pillar to post to seek justice but unfortunately the Government ignored their plight.
He said they are not going to suspend the strike unless and until their genuine demands are accepted by the State Government in writing with complete acceptance in a time bound manner.
