New school timing violation of children rights: RTI Movement

SRINAGAR, Apr 30: Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement has demanded that the Government order vis a vis new school timing for Srinagar municipal limits should be revoked as it violates the basic rights of children.
Terming new school timing as violation of rights of children, RTI Movement has appealed the Government not to go ahead with the new school timing.
In a statement, Chairman of RTI Movement, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that the Government order directing schools in Srinagar city to operate from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm is nothing but an abuse of child rights. He said that this would affect the health of children as well.
“How is it possible for children to reach school around 8:15 or 8:30 AM especially for those kids who are studying in a school that is 10 to 12 km away from their residence? This means such children will have to leave for school at 7 am as the school bus halts at more or less one dozen places. For children who are supposed to leave at 7 AM, have to get up at 6 AM. Is this practically or medically possible for kids in the age group of 4 to 7 years?,” questioned Dr Raja Muzaffar.
Muzaffar said for majority of the students morning classes will be affecting their health as they won’t be able to concentrate on studies in class. “I appeal Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ganai to take back this decision,” he added.
