Drug peddlers to be booked under PSA

JAMMU, May 28: Terming the killing of militant commander Zakir Musa as a success for the security forces, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that a new idea of militancy introduced by dreaded militant Zakir Musa has ended with his death.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of his visit to District Poonch, DGP Dilbag Singh said that Zakir Musa started a new idea of militancy in Kashmir but his idea came to an end with his killing. “No one accepted Musa’s idea within the State and outside”, he said, adding that those who joined Musa’s cadre were eliminated by the Jammu and Kashmir in coordination with other security agencies.
Replying to a question, DGP said that there are around 275 militants are active in the valley, out of which around 215 are foreigners and rest are locals. “There is sharp decline in the recruitment of the locals in the militancy”, he said and adding that the infiltration grid has been strengthened to restrict entry of the foreign militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Drug abuse has become a big challenge for society and the police force is putting in hard work to eliminate the menace. The peddlers should be booked under the PSA to curb their malpractices and bring them to justice”, he said while addressing police personnel at Rajouri and Poonch districts. He was accompanied by IGP Vijay Kumar and DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Vivek Gupta.
Singh stressed upon the police personnel to equip themselves with the more professional skills in their fight against crime and militancy.
DGP said police should be people-friendly but should be tough against criminals. He said the role of J&K Police in achieving success against terrorism has been lauded at national level.
Training skills and working techniques of the police personnel are being further upgraded to make them more effective in their respective fields, he said.
Special pre-promotion courses have been started at range level to fill the newly released vacancies for promotion and courses have been specially designed to make them suitable to the ground requirements, the senior official said during his visit to the twin districts.
“All the ranks in the force are committed together to safeguard the interests of the nation and keep the flag of the organisation high”, he said.
On the occasion, the DGP rewarded police officials of Rajouri District for seizing a big haul of arms and ammunition recently.
District SSPs Ramesh Kumar Angral and Yougal Manhas briefed the DGP about the functioning of police in their respective districts.
Gazetted officers and other jurisdictional officers were present in the darbars.
