Minister reviews land acquisition process for GDC campuses in district Baramulla
JAMMU: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today said that Government would run new colleges of the state in rented buildings making an end to past practice of running these colleges from Government Higher Secondary Schools.
“The department would hire separate buildings to house new colleges till the construction of the campuses instead of running these from GHSS which badly hampers the education of students of both the institutions,” the Minister said while reviewing the progress on land identification for GDC campus Rafiabad and expansion of Baramulla Degree College campus here at a meeting.
The meeting was attended by Member Legislative Assembly Rafiabad, Yawar Mir, Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Samoon, Director Colleges, Mushtaq Ahmed Chat, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash and other concerned officers.
The Minister took detailed review of the progress made in identification, acquisition of land for Government Degree College Rafiabad and additional land for Baramulla Degree College for its further expansion.
It was informed that district administration has identified over 80-Kanal land for Rafiabad GDC campus and the process of acquisition is in progress.
Altaf Bukhari asked district administration to work out a comprehensive outlay for the campus with a provision for developing a sports stadium within or in the vicinity of the campus.
Highlighting the importance of having a well-equipped sports stadium, the Minister said that the government would pool resources for its development by dovetailing various state and centrally sponsored sports development schemes.
The meeting further directed the district administration to remove bottlenecks and expedite the process for acquisition of land for GDC Baramulla.
