NEET held across J&K as aspirants compete for over 1000 MBBS seats

SRINAGAR, Sept 12: After much delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UG NEET conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS courses in colleges across the country including J&K was held today.
The aspirants were seen heading towards their respective examination centres to appear in the much-awaited NEET which started at 2 PM and ended at 5.
As per details, thousands of aspirants will compete for over 1000 seats across the medical colleges J&K.

As per officials, there are 180 seats each in GMC Jammu and GMC Srinagar, 100 each in GMC Kathua, Doda, Baramulla and Anantnag, 115 in GMC Rajouri and 125 in SKIMS Medical College Bemina, while as these seats have been increased in the last 2 years.
Every year, the NEET exam is held in June or July, however, the same was postponed including that of NEET-PG which was then held on September 11.
For the NEET exam that was held today, several examination centres were set up across J&K while the stringent observation was also carried out.
While the extensive frisking of the aspirants was carried out before the examination, appropriate seating arrangement was also done to maintain the Social Distancing.
Students while expressing happiness over the conduct of the examination said that they have been desperately waiting for it to be held as they were undergoing psychological disturbance as it got delayed due to the COVID pandemic.
“I was prepared enough, but it being constantly postponed added to the mental agony and now that it has been held, I am quite happy and relaxed,” a student said.
Meanwhile, the NEET aspirants from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today alleged that their examination centre was all of a sudden changed causing them immense trouble.
Muskaan Farooq hailing from Kulgam had reached her centre at Govt Higher Secondary, Bragpora, however, upon reaching there in time, she was told that the examination centre has been changed.
“When I along with several others reached Bragpora, we were told that the examination centre has been changed and the new centre is at Bijbehara; we were not notified at all and the move has caused us immense hardships,” she said.
As per Muskaan, the issue was faced over 100 aspirants who were supposed to appear in the NEET examination at Bragpora centre. “The administration should hold the NTA accountable for what they have done at the last minute,” she said.
Farooq Ahmad, a parent accompanying his son to the examination said that the sudden change has caused immense trouble to children as well as the parents and that the Government must take action against people responsible.
