JAMMU, Sept 24: J&K president of National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI), Rajesh Gupta has expressed concern over the illegal mining in Nagrota along with the areas around river Tawi etc.
Gupta urged upon the LG Manoj Sinha to intervene so that natural wealth and state exchequer worth crores are saved.
He claimed that it is not only the illegal mining which is going on unabatedly in Nagrota but there are also a number of illegal stone crushers operating in Jagati, Ban, Nagrota and other areas in Jammu in violation of the rules.
NDPI leader said despite clear cut directions from the government as well as the courts with regard to blanket ban on mining including extraction of stones, sand, mud and other raw material in J&K, the mining mafia in Jammu province continues to violate the rules.
He claimed that a number of trucks filled with sand, stones, mud etc are operating illegally in Nagrota without paying any royalty to the government as Geology and Mining Department has turned blind eye towards all these illegal activities.
Gupta also claimed that Mining Officers at Nagrota are hand in glove with mining mafia and demanded a high level inquiry into illegal mining.
He also said that contractors, stone crusher owners, officials of Geology and Mining Department, Police and officials in administration are all involved in this illegal trade.
