JAMMU, Dec 17: National Development Foundation (NDF), in partnership with ‘Save the Children’ with support from European Union in collaboration with Government Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases Medical College, Jammu organized psycho-social support through referrals at Government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Jammu.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Dr Zahid H Geelani. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Dr Osmani Suaida Veeri, Superintendent, Psychiatric Hospital and Arti Sharma president/chief functionary of NDF.
Dr Mannu Arora, Dr Rameshwar Singh Jamwal and Dr Shabnam Rayees examined the children with psycho-social stress and provided them medicines and counseling as per need. 50 children from far flung areas of Gool block of district Ramban along with their guardians were provided psychosocial support during the programme.
Dr Zahid Geelani during interaction with the children appreciated the efforts of National Development Foundation for establishing referrals of children of far flung areas of Gool with Government Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases and assured full support and cooperation of Government Medical College for all such future ventures also.
Dr Osmani while speaking on the occasion said that the doctors at Psychiatric hospital are well acquainted and will not only examine but also will provide counseling to the children. She said that they have trained clinical psychiatrists who are always ready to offer their services in such programmes.
President/chief functionary of NDF while speaking on the occasion disclosed that NDF has established referral with GMC Psychiatric Hospital Jammu for 150 children who hail from far flung area of block Gool in District Ramban. She said that NDF team at Ramban has identified these children in consultation with the Child Protection Committees which comprises of Sarpanches and other civil society stake holders in the village.
