NCP demands raising of Col Rinchen’s statue in Leh, Jammu

JAMMU, July 2: On the 18th death anniversary of late Col Chhewang Rinchen, NCP State president, Thakur Randhir Singh demanded the Prime Minister of India to raise statues of Col Rinchen at most suitable places not only in Leh but also in Jammu, Srinagar and Delhi.
While paying floral tributes to the late Army officer, NCP chief said that Col Rinchen will always be remembered for his exceptional bravery and courageous act during 1947-48 operations, when he along with his band of 28 volunteers successfully blocked the advancement of Pakistan raiders to Leh for approximately two months.
The NCP chief said that for this heroic act, Col Rinchen was awarded Mahavir Chakra twice and with this he became the young recipient of the award in Indian Army and created an Army history for our future generations in the field of mountainous warfare.
The former Minister urged the PM Narendra Modi to provide due honour to the late Army officer by sanctioning work of construction of his statues not only in Leh but also in Jammu, Srinagar and Delhi.
