JAMMU, Dec 14: National Conference (NC) District Committee Jammu Urban staged a protest dharna near Gole Panjpeer in Talab Tillo area against Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for dumping the solid waste in the area, which has become a potential threat to the residents in close vicinity.
Led by Jammu Urban President and former Deputy Mayor Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, the protesters expressed anguish over the Corporation making the place as dumping ground despite standing Court orders.
Jamwal cautioned the JMC against continuation of this menace saying that this has become a dangerous health hazard for the people, not only in the close vicinity but in the immediate neighbourhood also.
He said the solid waste has all the potential to pollute the two major pumping stations which are source of drinking water to a huge chunk of population residing in Jain Colony, Vishal Nagar, Sundar Nagar, Indira Colony, Vijay Nagar, Amar Colony, Gole Panjpeer and Munshi Chak.
The dharna was lifted after JMC Commissioner and other officers assured the protesters that necessary measures would be taken to redress their problems.
Among others present were Sucha Singh, Pinki Bhat, Jaswant Singh, Raghu Saini, Shammi Lamberdar, Rattan Pradhan and Dileep Singh.
