JAMMU, Dec 17: The National Conference activists today held massive protest demonstration and dharna against PDP-BJP Government, on the issue of alleged `misgovernance’ and the ill-conceived implementation of the Food Security Act, terming it as anti-poor.
The demonstrators led by National Conference District Jammu Urban president, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal staged `sit-in’ near Press Club, here raising slogans and displaying placards. Provincial Youth National Conference president Ajaz Jan was also present on the occasion.
Mr Jamwal alleged that over nine and half months’ period of misgovernance of the PDP-BJP coalition, is a sordid saga of failures on all fronts with development being pushed to backburner and peoples’ problems getting further aggravated. He made a scathing attack on the Coalition Government for implementing the Food Security Act (FSA), saying this will deprive a huge chunk of population of much needed rations.
“No scheme is viable unless it benefits the targeted segment of population optimally”, he said, adding that the ill-conceived policies of the present dispensation have brought innumerable miseries to the people.
He said the FSA will lead to deprivation and exploitation of the poor. The Government cannot remain indifferent and insensitive to the growing sufferings of the people, especially those living in remote and backward areas.
Mr Jamwal said that the PDP-BJP duo stand exposed as all the promises made before elections and soon after the Government formation have proved hoax. “The development process initiated during the Omar Abdullah Government has come to grinding halt while utility services were craving for attention”, he said adding that governance is not all about rhetoric, which the current combination is indulging in lavishly.
Referring to the local issues, the former Deputy Mayor said that Jammu has almost been converted into a garbage den with sewage flowing in many areas, streets in dilapidated condition, street lights either not existing or hardly working. He said the Government has lost the moral authority to govern as nothing seems to be working.
Former MLA Ajaz Jan lamented over scarcity of rations at the sale outlets, erratic power and drinking water supply, especially in remote and border areas besides non-payment of wages and dues to different segments of workers. He highlighted the dilapidated condition of roads, saying due to neglect, road connectivity in rural areas is in shambles.
Prominent among those who participated included Vijay Lochan, Abdul Gani Teli, Ch Arshad, Sanjay Gupta, Rakesh Singh, Rashida Begum, Rohit Kerni, Sucha Singh, Ravi Dogra, Pinki Bhat, Sandeep Singh and Rohit Bali.
