JAMMU, Mar 6: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah today lauded the resilience and fortitude of the people of Ladakh for meeting various challenges, especially during the area remaining landlocked due to weather vagaries.
Interacting with a delegation from Leh here this afternoon, Dr Abdullah said that National Conference will always remain in the forefront to espouse their cause to ensure that they live a dignified life with all facilities including utility services available at their doorsteps.
The delegation led by president of the Leh Unit, Sonam Wandus, and comprising, among others, Mohammed Ismail and Mohammed Usman, apprised Dr Farooq Abdullah about the party functioning, saying the grass root level workers have been mobilized for ensuing Panchayat elections. They said the party cadre is feeling rejuvenated, especially after clinching two prestigious seats during elections to Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, and were fully prepared for the biggest democratic exercise at the grass root level.
Provincial President National Conference Jammu, Devender Singh Rana was also present on the occasion.
Dr Abdullah said that peoples support was biggest strength of National Conference, presence of which is in every nook and corner of the State. “Peoples unflinching faith in the party, which stands for Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Buddhist Itehad and opportunities of progress to all, has been source of inspiration to carry forward the movement of people and channelize it for the betterment of all the three regions and their sub-regions”, he said, adding that leadership at local levels will have to work hard for achieving the ultimate goal. He said that National Conference represents the urges and aspirations of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
The delegation raised several issues confronting to the people, especially in Turtuk and Changthang, calling for two room tenements to replace tented habitations. They said these basic issues have lost the attention of insensitive PDP-BJP dispensation which has all along since coming to power exploited the people by showing dreams.
Dr Farooq Abdullah exhorted the delegation to work for further strengthening the party at base level, saying a vibrant and strong National Conference was the answer to all problems facing the State, especially far-flung areas like the Ladakh region.
The delegation also discussed the proposed visit of the party leadership to Ladakh in May.
