JAMMU, Sept 8: National Conference today paid glowing tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on his 36th death anniversary with senior leaders and prominent workers taking a pledge to work towards realizing the vision of the leader in making Jammu and Kashmir a politically stable, peaceful and prosperous State and preserving its special identity.
Leading the cadre in paying homage at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning, State Secretary and former minister Surjeet Singh Slathia said the best tribute to the leader of masses will be to strengthen Hindu, Muslim, Sikh amity, which is central to glorious fabric of the State.

In his tribute, senior leader and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said National Conference has inherited the legacy of Sher-e-Kashmir and is committed to bequeath it to posterity by setting an example of fighting the divisive and disruptive elements tooth and nail.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included State secretary, Rattan Lal Gupta, Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Bukhari, Kashmira Singh, Babu Ram Paul, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Vijay Bakaya and Dr Chaman Lal.
The National Conference leaders also deliberated in detail over Article 35A and cautioned against machination being perpetrated to dilute it. They said that National Conference will fight tooth and nail all the attempts of weakening this special constitutional proviso.
In the wee hours, Quran Khwani by G H Malik was held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan while all religious prayers were conducted by T S Wazir, Pradeep Bali, Waris Gill and Choudhry Haroon. NC leaders also visited the Old Age Home in the morning and distributed fruit among the inmates.
Prominent among those present on the occasion pf tribute paying ceremony, included Dr Kamal Arora, Sardar Tarlochan Singh Warir, Haji Mohd Hussain, Deepender Kour, Master Noor Hussain, Jugal Mahajan, Bashir Ahmed Wani, Mohinder Singh, Bimla Luthra, Satwant Kour Dogra, Vijay Laxami Dutta, Ayub Malik, Ch Haroon, Abdul Gani Teli, Vijay Lochan, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal and others.
Tributes were also paid to Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah by NC units at all the district and block headquarters of the Jammu province.
At Poonch, a meeting in this regard was held under the chairmanship of NC Youth Wing provincial president Ajaz Jan. A large number of party workers from across Poonch participated in this meet and paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah terming him as a man who proved his identity as the lion of State.
At Mendhar, NC activists under the leadership of MLA Mendhar, Javed Ahmed Rana, assembled at Dak Banglow Mendhar and paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohd Abdullah.
Speaking on the occasion, Javed Rana described Sheikh Abdullah as the tallest leader of all times.
At Banihal, NC district president, Ramban, Haji Sajjad Shaheen organized a programme where rich tributes were paid to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
At Chenani, tributes were paid to Sheikh Abdullah during a special meeting, organized at Panchayat Ghar Chenani, under the leadership of Naresh Anthal and provincial joint secretary, Vijay Khajuria. A large number of peoples participated and paid tribute to Sheikh Abdullah.
