NC leader, woman among 6 more die; IAS, Judicial Officer positive

72 in JU, 11 Sectt, 22 SSP-T office, 16 in PSC +ve

ALC, AEE, 5 Kanachak cops test Corona +ve

JAMMU, Sept 7: For third time, Jammu district alone accounted for more Coronavirus positive cases than entire Kashmir Valley as fresh spike saw Jammu region recording six more fatalities including senior National Conference leader Thakur Rashpal Singh, former MLA, a woman and one retired Naib Tehsildar. The region recorded 629 new COVID-19 cases today, 442 of them in Jammu district alone, as against Kashmir Valley’s total 413.
Among the positives were a senior woman IAS officer in the rank of Administrative Secretary, a Judicial Officer and his daughter, Assistant Labour Commissioner, an AEE Mechanical posted in GMC Jammu and three employees of Oxygen Plant, 13 more employees and patients from GMC Doda, seven doctors, five police personnel from Kanachak, seven persons from Sunjwan, five members of a family from Akhnoor, three family members each from Janipura and Nanak Nagar, two from IIIM Jammu and a couple from Miran Sahib.

A total of 344 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 during Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) in Jammu district, 173 of them in offices including 72 in Jammu University, one of them a woman Deputy Registrar and another a wife of the Judicial Officer, 11 in Civil Secretariat, six in Election Commission office Bahu Plaza, one in Family Welfare Nagrota, 21 in Jammu and Kashmir Bank Office Rail Head, one in UPHC Shastri Nagar, three in NCC Headquarters Trikuta Nagar, 22 in SSP Traffic office Gulshan Ground, seven in CD Hospital District TB Centre, five Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, eight Joint Director Farm CCB and Res Farm Belicharana and 16 in JK PSC Jammu.
A senior female IAS officer, who is posted as Administrative Secretary, today tested positive for COVID-19. On Saturday, she was seated with two IAS officers in a press conference at Srinagar. She was tested for the virus on reaching Jammu through RTPCR and reported positive. A Judicial Officer and his daughter have also reported positive for the virus here.
Meanwhile, 65 years old National Conference leader Thakur Rashpal Singh, who had served as Vice Chairman Kissan Advisory Board and MLA from Kalakote Assembly constituency, died of massive heart attack after testing positive for COVID-19 at Narayana Hospital in Katra where he was under treatment.
Singh had tested positive for the virus only few days back and was shifted to Narayana Hospital with fever, cough and breathlessness. He suffered massive heart attack in the hospital around 2.30 am and died. His body was shifted to his native village Sial Sui in Kalakote tehsil of Rajouri district where it was cremated as per COVID protocol with limited family members joining last rites.
Prior to him, a former National Conference MLC from Kathua and a youth National Conference leader from Talab Tillo had died of COVID-19.
A 58-year-old woman from Gurha Bakshi Nagar who was co-morbid coupled with Community Acquired Pneumonia and Corona positive died in the GMC Jammu this morning where she was admitted since September 5, GMC Medical Superintendent Dara Singh said.
A 73-year-old man from Bhaderwah tehsil in Doda district, who was also co-morbid and positive for pathogen died in the Chest diseases Hospital Bakshi Nagar where he was admitted on September 3, Hospital Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said.
A 78-year-old man from Canal Road suffering from various ailments and Coronavirus also died in the GMC Jammu, seven days after his admission in the hospital.
An 80-year-old man from Seri Chandimar admitted in Peer Panjal Hospital at Potha Surankote with ailments and had tested positive for the virus during treatment died in the hospital today, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said, adding that the man was buried at his native village under due COVID protocol.
A 72-year-old Retired Naib Tehsildar who was working as stamp vendor in Tehsil office complex in Kathua died of bilateral Community Acquired Pneumonia and Coronavirus in the GMC Jammu. He was a resident of Ward No. 3 Krishna Colony, District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat said, adding he was cremated as per the COVID SOP.
Six more casualties have taken Jammu region’s Corona casualties to 105, the maximum being 67 in Jammu district, 10 Kathua, seven Rajouri, six Doda, five Poonch, four each Udhampur and Samba and one each in Ramban and Kishtwar districts.
Of 442 Corona positive cases in Jammu district, 413 were locals with no travel history while 29 were travelers.
Five police personnel from Border Police Post Kirpalpur of Kanachak police station including an ASI, one Havaldar and three SPOs today tested positive for the virus. They have been kept in home isolation. SHO Kanachak Inspector Ravi Parihar said the Police Post has been sealed for sanitization and will resume work shortly.
An AEE posted in Mechanical Division of the GMC Jammu, Incharge Oxygen Plant and three employees of the Plant today tested positive for the virus.
Three doctors have also tested positive for the virus in Jammu district including one from Channi Himmat and two from Talab Tillo. Seven persons from Sunjwan, three family members each from Nanak Nagar and Janipura, five of a family from Akhnoor, two from IIIM Jammu and a couple from Miran Sahib have also reported Corona positive.
Thirty two persons today tested Corona positive in Udhampur district including an Assistant Labour Commissioner, a couple and their son from near CEO Office, a doctor posted at PHC Barnala, a pregnant woman and a police constable, District Magistrate Dr Piyush Singla said.
Of total 32 positives, 10 were tested during random sampling, 15 were contacts of positives and two travelers.
Of 41 positive cases in Poonch district, five were SBI employees and wife of one of the employees, all from Mendhar branch, a JKAP 6th battalion constable, five persons including two brothers from Samote and Salyan and Dehra Mohra in Surankote tehsil, a doctor from Ward No. 6 Mendhar and rest locals from different parts of the district who were tested through RAT.
Thirteen more persons from GMC Doda including employees, mostly paramedics and three patients tested positive for Coronavirus today in the RAT.
Reasi district today reported 15 new Corona positive cases including a dental surgeon from District Hospital Reasi, one staffer each of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Narayana Hospital, four each Jammu and Kashmir Bank officials and service providers from Mahore, a Patwari, one JKP jawan posted at Vaishno Devi Bhawan and two patients.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Mahore Santosh Sukhdeve said Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch and Main Market in Mahore will remain closed for three days after eight positive cases were reported there.
Twenty one persons today tested positive for COVID-19 Kathua district including nine travelers, seven who were subjected to testing randomly and four contacts of positive persons.
One IRP jawan and one more employee of Chenab Textile Mills (CTM) Kathua were among the positives. Other positive cases of the district hailed from Dayalachak, Patyari Hiranagar, Ward No. 4 Hiranagar, Kishanpur, Mandli and Ward No. 3 Kathua.
Rajouri district reported 39 new Corona positive cases today including 18 from Nowshera, five from Rajouri town, three each from Sunderbani and Kalakote, one each from Manjakote and Thanna Mandi and eight with travel history.
A CRPF jawan, one worker of private Railway company and a pregnant woman tested positive in Ramban district.
Twenty positive cases-11 each local and travelers were reported from Samba district and one from Kishtwar.
At the same time, 69 Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region after testing negative for the virus, the maximum being 23 in Jammu district, 15 each Kathua and Samba, seven Poonch, six Reasi and three in Rajouri district.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has 12,418 Corona cases including 5073 active positive as 7240 patients have recovered while there have been 105 casualties.
The Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 28 new Corona cases-nine in Leh and 19 in Kargil taking Corona tally to 3064 and active cases to 818 while 2211 patients have recovered and there were 35 casualties.
