‘Govt working on agenda of equitable development’

JAMMU, Sept 7: Welfare of every section of the society and each community, besides safeguarding the rights of the people of J&K is the topmost priority of the UT Government.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha made these remarks during his visit to the Jagti township, which was the latest in the series of taking first hand appraisal of the issues of the people.

To bring a new era of development in J&K, the present Government is working on the agenda of equitable and holistic development, he maintained.
The residents of Jagti township apprised the Lt Governor about various welfare issues of Kashmiri Pandit community including permanent rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, enhancement of relief amount, financial package of KPs for facilitating entrepreneurship and business, compensation for damaged properties in Kashmir, retrieval of encroached properties in Kashmir etc.
The residents submitted a written memorandum to the Lt Governor flagging various issues of importance. They also raised the issues of political reservation to KPs and demanded more townships for remaining families of migrants.
Sinha, while interacting with the people there, assured them that all the genuine issues and demands projected by them would be looked into meticulously for their early redressal.
He observed that he would examine the issues raised by the people and assured them that instead of making hollow promises and announcements, he would genuinely and rationally try to address the problems being faced by the people.
Meanwhile, the UT Government is taking comprehensive measures to ensure prompt redressal of people’s grievances, besides improving public service delivery mechanism with progressively increasing citizens’ participation at all levels, through transparent and accountable governance, he added.
The Lt Governor was accompanied by Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu; Mukesh Singh, IGP Jammu; Simrandeep Singh, Special Secretary to the Government, Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction; Sushma Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Shridhar Patil, SSP Jammu; T. K. Bhat, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner and other senior officers.
Meanwhile, Sinha today visited Raghunath, Ranbireshwar and Panjbakhtar Temples and took stock of the facilities being made available to the visiting devotees.
He paid obeisance there and prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Lt Governor also took a walk through the heritage Raghunath Market and Residency Road area where he interacted with locals, shopkeepers, officer bearers of Traders Associations including Raghunath Bazar Association and Kanak Mandi Association.
He enquired about the difficulties being faced by the people and the business community due to COVID-19 pandemic, or otherwise.
Terming people’s feedback as imperative for accountable and responsive administration, Sinha urged the people to come forward with their issues and grievances and play an active role in the developmental process by providing regular feedback on the working of the Administration.
The locals and the business community appreciated the people friendly approach of the Lt Governor and lauded his initiatives for reaching out to the people of every nook and corner of the UT and taking first hand appraisal of their issues and grievances.
They put forth demands which included beautification of Jammu City, timely completion of Mega Projects and expressed high hopes from the present Government for the early completion of various developmental projects to uplift the Tourism profile of the region that will ultimately benefit the people at large, particularly the business community and the youth of the region with more scope of employment and business opportunities.
The Lt Governor observed that the Government is committed to resolve the grievances of the people through an effective public redressal system and assured them that all their genuine issues and demands will be addressed on merit.
