Nayak reviews implementation of Basmati Cluster Project

JAMMU, June 4: Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department Sandeep Nayak today reviewed the implementation of various schemes including Suchetgarh Basmati Rice Cluster (SBRC) Project.
In the meeting, which was also attended by Manisha Sharma, Director CAD Jammu, Director Agriculture Dr S S Jamwal gave a detailed power point presentation regarding various action plans and schemes being implemented by the department.
Nayak also interacted with all the Chief Agriculture Officers of the Jammu Division regarding implementation of different farmers welfare schemes and the problems being confronted by them.
While reviewing the functioning of Seed Multiplication Farms of the department, Nayak expressed satisfaction over the overall working and various operations undergoing at Chinore, which he visited early in the morning along with Director Agriculture Dr S S Jamwal and Sudesh Koul, Joint Director (Inputs) Jammu to have an on the spot assessment of various problems and bottlenecks being faced at the field level.
He directed the officers of the Seed Certification Scheme and the Seed Testing Labs to strengthen the quality assurance mechanism as they are accountable in the supply chain of quality seed to the farmers.
Laying emphasis on the Human Resource Development (HRD) in the department, he directed the officers concerned to prepare a detailed schedule of trainings for the officers of the department to various prestigious institutes of the country. Regarding assistance to farmers, he directed that all types of subsidies be routed through DBT mode and be linked to Aadhaar.
Regarding the Suchetgarh Basmati Rice Cluster Project, he said that the project is priority for the Government for turning the farmers into practitioners of value added Basmati Rice based cropping system to get the benefits for local stake-holders.
It will facilitate the small and marginal land holders of the area to get organized into viable group, he said and stressed that improved organic practices shall be promoted in the selected cluster as per the essence and concepts of the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) to give the desired boost.
Later, Principal Secretary also visited the Fertilizer Quality Control Laboratory, State Pesticide Testing Lab (STPL), Soil Testing Lab and Hi-tech Green House structure where protected cultivation of hi-value vegetable crops are being grown.
