JAMMU, May 28: The 12th Natrang Theatre Festival, a festival of 4 plays opened here today with the presentation of Hindi play ‘Ek Raat’ based on a story of Rabindranath Tagore, adapted by Pratap Sehgal and directed by Neeraj Kant.
Natrang is organising a Theatre Festival of four plays every month since last thirteen months in commemoration with the celebrations of 35 glorious years of Natrang.
In welcome address, Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur informed that Natrang has already created a record in the country by showcasing 44 major different plays in 12 months.
The story of the play revolves around a man, who is living on the memories of his love.
‘Neelesh’, an assistant teacher curses himself for missing out a golden opportunity of getting married to his childhood love because he could not muster the courage to stand against the will of his father.
Recollecting all the sweet memories with ‘Surbala’, Neelesh shares his tragic love story with ‘Ghoshal’, whom he considers a true friend. Neelesh shares how he keeps cherishing all the moments spent with ‘Surbala’ during their childhood days, and how difficult it is for him to accept that she has got married to Ramlochan, an advocate in Calcutta. He further goes on explaining to him the dilemma of visiting her house to meet Ramlochan, who is married to his childhood love. Surbala and Neelesh witnesses a tragic situation when suddenly flood occurs in the city and Neelesh comes forward to rescue her from drowning.
They both took refuge on a rock and Surbala gets worried as it would be difficult for the people to digest that a married woman spent whole night with another man, but Neelesh keeps his calm, and asks her to gather courage to speak the truth.
Actors who performed in the play were Abhinav Sharma, Sumit Raina, Sameena Kousar, Chahat Katyal and Udit Sagar.
Lights were designed by Neeraj Kant and executed by Shivam Singh whereas music was rendered by Aarti Bhagat. The show was presented by Chirag Anand and coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
