JAMMU, May 24: Theatre Group ‘Natrang’ here today staged Balwant Thakur’s popular Dogri play ‘Gatt’ based on Krishna Chander’s famous Urdu classic short story ‘Khadda’. The play was directed by eminent theatre Director Neeraj Kant.
The play ‘Gatt’ shows that one and all tend to shirk their own duties and responsibilities and pass the same on to others.
The play revolves around a man who fell into a ditch and all his pleas for help remained unanswered by all passers by like surveyors, young men, religious, leaders, cops, political leader in power and a foreigner.
The man in distress is given different excuses by different persons and the situation becomes more dramatic when a minister after a complaint from the public about worsening of road condition, makes a round of the area. The workers of the Public Works Department instead of taking out the man from the ditch put wooden planks over it and create a stage for minister’s public speech. After the public meeting, wooden planks are removed but no one pays heed to the man in ditch.
The play reflects the plight of the poor masses who continue to suffer for want of help from those at the helm of affairs.
Artists who performed in the play were Neeraj Kant, Pawan Verma, Akash Wadhwan, Nikshaya Mahajan, Arnav Dhotra, Goutam Rattan, Kushal Bhat, Aadesh Dhar, Mohd. Yaseen and Mahikshit Singh; lights were executed by Neeraj Kant and the presentations were done by Kushal Bhat.
