JAMMU, Sept 10: Natrang presented a Hindi play “Antraal Ke Baad” at Natrang Studio Theatre, here today.
Written by Pratap Sehgal and directed by Neeraj Kant, the play is about an emotional widow, who takes a career break to take care of her new born baby and when time comes, gets the empty nest syndrome in reciprocation.
The play opens, where Manju is waiting for her son ‘Gaurav’ in a thunderous rainy night and calls her husband’s friend ‘Suresh’ to fetch him. But, in the meanwhile Gaurav arrives and tell her mother about the scholarship he got from the California University for further higher studies and research work. But Manju is reluctant in sending her son abroad.
In the next scene, Manju’s friend ‘Deepa’ is seen convincing her to let Gaurav go abroad for further studies and also tells her that what our parents used to think, we don’t and the same goes for our children. But, the emotional mother tells her that when Gaurav was only a year old, she too was offered a scholarship by the University for Higher Studies, which she refused for the sake of her child.
After two years, Manju’s husband ‘Madhur’ died in a road accident and Madhur’s friend Suresh offered a marriage proposal before her, which she refused. And now the lonely mother does not want to let her son go abroad, but Gaurav without caring for her mother’s emotions, sorrows and sentiments takes a flight to California.
In the end scene, dejected mother remembers her husband’s words “Your child won’t take care of your joys, sorrows and emotions for whom you are sacrificing your career”.
