SRINAGAR, May 15: Scores of residents from Natipora and its adjoining localities today protested against authorities for failing to repair the dilapidated road.
The protesting residents blocked the Srinagar- Chadoora road at Natipora Chowk around 10 a.m. which lasted till 11 am. The blockage resulted in massive traffic jams in the area. Women, children and students also participated in the protest.
Agitating residents were demanding repairing of the dilapidated road which has become a source of inconveniences for children and elderly people.
President, Rambagh and Natipora Traders Union, Mehraj Din Khan while talking to Excelsior said that the residents are facing immense inconveniences due to the dilapidated condition of the road. “We are close to city center Lal Chowk but unfortunately our area has received least attention.”
Another resident said that they have repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities concerned but their pleas fell on deaf ears. “Authorities should at least use blanketing to fill the big potholes. But unfortunately, they are seen nowhere despite repeated public outcry,” he said. He accused SMC of ignoring the area.
Soon after the residents blocked the road, police swung into action and dispersed them.
