JAMMU, Nov 23: Interna-tional Centre for Cross-Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu (JU) organized National Round Table on the theme of “The Global Business Scenario and India’s Way Ahead”.
Prof Gulshan Sachdeva, Director, Europe Area Studies, Centre for European Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Dr Debasis Chakraborty from IIFT New Delhi, Prof Vijay Vancheswar from International Management Institute (IMI) New Delhi, Prof Dipankar Sengupta, Department of Economics, JU, Rakesh Gupta, president, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu and Annil Suri, former Chairman, Federation of Industries, Jammu were the guest speakers at the Round Table.
Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, ICccR & HRM, JU in her opening presentation on ‘Current Issues, Concerns & Debate in Global Business’ deliberated upon the Global Business Landscape and highlighted the several global risks that are spotted in the world map in terms of economical, political, technological, cultural, climatic, environmental issues etc.
Prof Gulshan Sachdeva delivered a talk on the theme ‘Crisis in Europe and India Europe Economic Ties’. Prof Sachdeva threw light upon the relationship between Europe and India in terms of the strong linkages being held between the nations especially in case of technological and historical associations.
Dr Debasis Chakraborty, presented a talk on ‘India’s Act East Policy: Expectations, Emerging Trends and Concern Areas’. He discussed comprehensively about the trade patterns as developed by India’s participation with the regional trading blocs like ASEAN, SAARC, China, Japan and others.
Prof Vijay Vancheswar delivered a talk on ‘Tryst with Uncertainty, Disruption & Trust’ and highlighted eight primary challenges that are seen and felt across the global business world.
The debate further proceeded with the talk of Prof Dipankar Sengupta who presented on ‘The USA Economy & its implications for India” wherein he discussed about the market polity and expansionary budget.
During the Session II under the theme of ‘Global Business Scenario and J&K Perspective’, Rakesh Gupta elaborated upon the transformation era especially in the context of the impact of demonetisation on the industry of J&K.
Annil Suri discussed the several challenges confronted by the industry in the State of J&K, highlighting J&K border bottlenecks, high cost of carrying raw material, unavailability of skilled manpower, security issues and unwillingness of banks to invest in businesses making it difficult for business activities to take place.
During the valedictory function, Prof RD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, JU was the chief guest while Prof Desh Bandhu Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs, JU presided over the function.
Prof RD Sharma during his address said that today’s global business world seeks to produce managers and professionals who are capable of channelizing their energies towards the development of societies and nations at large.
Prof Desh Bandhu Gupta in his presidential address reflected upon the need for professionals to address the issues and concerns of international management to successfully navigate through the challenges posed by the same.
Dr Pallvi Arora, Assistant Professor, ICccR & HRM, presented the report of the National Round Table at the valedictory session.
