Kargil, Apr 24: The National Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated at Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall here.
During the celebration Project Director Rural Development Department Kargil Gulzar Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Revenue and District Panchayat Officer Kargil Ghulam Abass, ACD Kargil Kacho Mohammad Tourab Shah, BDOs, Panchayat Secretaries, Sarpanches and Naib Sarpanches from all the blocks of Kargil were present.
On this occasion a brief overview of Panchayati Raj was given to those present on this occasion and educated them about their rights and duties.
Speaking on this occasion Sarpanchs village Akchamal Liyaqat Ali, Tai Suru, Chiktan and some others said that they have only been given the status of an elected representative and they have no powers to intervene or to monitor the 14 line department for which the Government has issued orders.
