National Lok Adalat held across UTs of J&K and Ladakh

* 1,10,605 cases resolved, Rs 67.76 cr settled

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Aug 13: J&K Legal Services Authority and Ladakh Legal Services Authority organized National Lok Adalat throughout the UTs of J&K and Ladakh today.
In order to have maximum response and settlements between the parties in cases like MACT, matrimonial, cheque bounce cases under NI Act, money recovery cases, etc it was advised to organize pre-Lok Adalat sittings or pre-counselling sessions well before the date of National Lok Adalat so that parties may get one or more chances for entering into negotiation/dialogue with the opposite parties.
Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, Ladakh Legal Services Authority and Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee had physical and virtual conferences with all the stakeholders before the National Lok Adalat and impressed upon them to educate the litigants about the benefits of settlements of disputes through ADR and make the upcoming National Lok Adalat a grand success.
As per the information received from the districts, out of a total number of 1,26,599 cases taken up by 151 Benches in the day long National Lok Adalat at various courts across the UT of J&K, 1,10,224 cases were disposed of and an amount of Rs. 66,96,34,416/- was awarded as compensation/settlement amount in civil, criminal, labour disputes, electricity and water bills cases, land acquisition, family matters, cheque dishonor and bank recovery cases.
Likewise in Ladakh a total of 531 cases were taken up by 8 benches and 381 cases were disposed of and an amount of Rs 79,25,408/- was awarded as compensation/settlement amount in civil, criminal, labour disputes, electricity and water bills cases, land acquisition, family matters, cheque dishonor and bank recovery cases.
M K Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K and Ladakh Legal Services Authorities thanked all the participants including the Judicial Officers, Secretaries DLSAs, Advocates, representatives of insurance companies and banks, staff of the courts and legal services institutions and litigants for their pragmatic approach in settlement of cases in such a large number.
Under the guidance of R N Watal, Chairman DLSA Reasi (Pr District & Sessions Judge Reasi) District Legal Services Authority Reasi organized National Lok Adalat. A total of 2031 cases were taken up for amicable settlement out of which 1902 cases were settled and an amount of Rs. 59,75,864 was realized as settlement amount.
Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi and Senior Advocate K K Dubey, District Court Complex, Reasi, Sudesh Sharma, Chief Judicial Magistrate (Sub-Judge), Reasi, and Advocate Pawan Khajuria, President Bar Association, Reasi. Priyanka Mahajan, Additional Mobile Magistrate, Reasi, Advocates Rashi Baru and Shazia Punjabi, Manoj Kumar Parihar, Sub Judge, Katra, Sandeep Sen, Munsiff, Katra and Advocate Akhil Prashar, President Bar Association, Katra, Mahavir Singh, Munsiff, Mahore, Abdul Gani Bhatt, President Bar Association, Mahore and Advocate S S. Sahni, Tehsil, Mahore conducted the proceedings of the benches.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ramban under the chairmanship of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Haq Nawaz Zargar organized National Lok Adalat and 855 cases of different nature were taken up and 431 cases were settled and settlement amount of Rs 64,00,000 was awarded in MACT and labor cases and Rs 71,590 was recovered as a compounding fine in other cases and Rs 16,87,143 were awarded in bank and other recovery cases.
Six benches for settling the cases were constituted. These benches were comprised of Principal District and Sessions Judge Ramban, Additional District & Session Judge Fast Track Court Ramban, Surinder Singh, CJM (Sub Judge) Ramban, Anjum Ara, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Ramban Pooja Gupta and Arusa Choudhary Munsiff JMIC Ramban.
National Lok Adalat was organized in district Doda by the District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah under the supervision and guidance of Chairman DLSA, Bhaderwah, Virinder Singh Bhau and Secretary DLSA, Bhaderwah, Mudasar Farooq.
Six benches constituted by Virinder Singh Bhau took up criminal compoundable cases, matrimonial and cases, maintenance, cheque bounce, civil, recovery, labour, PUS matters, MACT- Litigation and Pre-Litigation cases and other cases.
A total of 1047 cases were taken up out of which 450 cases of different nature were settled in presence of parties. The total amount of Rs 17464274 was settled in bank recovery, money recovery and MACT cases. A fine of Rs 217350 was also recovered. Judicial
The National Lok Adalat was organised across district Kupwara and a total of nine benches were constituted for taking up a total of 4544 cases of various nature across court complexes of the District.
Out of the total cases taken up, 3893 cases of various nature were settled on spot by amicable means with the intervention of benches and participating advocates which resulted in settlement of Rs. 14987818 worth motor accident claims as well from the bench Presided by Tasleem Arief (Pr. District & Sessions Judge Kupwara).
Besides a total of Rs. 14796518 was realized in recovery cases and Rs. 191300 realized as compensation and fine.
The National Lok Adalat was held in District Court Jammu and other courts falling under its jurisdiction in which 22 Benches were constituted to hear the cases.
A total number of 45,288 cases were listed out of which 39,743 cases were settled and an amount of Rs. 27,37,72,469 was realised by persuasion, reconciliation and compounding.
The administrative Judge for District Jammu Justice Tashi Rabstan also visited the court complex and interacted with the litigants during the Lok Adalat.
The Lok adalat was presided over by Sanjay Parihar, Pr Distt and Sessions Judge Jammu, who is also chairman DLSA Jammu. He was ably assisted by other Judicial officers of Jammu District.
District Legal Services Authority, Kathua organized 3rd National Lok Adalat which was inaugurated by Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Jaffer Hussain Beg at District Courts Complex.
A total of four benches were constituted at District Court Complex Kathua, besides five benches were constituted in Tehsil Courts at Basohli, Billawar, Bani, Hiranagar and Mahanpur. The Benches were consisted of Sub-Judge/Secretary District Legal Services Authority Pooja Raina, Addl District & Sessions Judge Kathua Kamlesh Pandita, Spl. Mobile Magistrate Kathua Anjana Rajput, Munsiff JMIC Kathua Cheena Sumbria, Assistant Director Fisheries Kathua Pawan Paul, District Mobile Magistrate Kathua Brij Raj Singh and ARTO Kathua Neeraj Kumar Sharma.
At Basohli, Lok Adalat bench consisted of Munsiff JMIC Basohli Jeevan Kumar Sharma, & Advocate Shub Kumar, Basohli. Likewise at Billawar, Lok Adalat bench comprised Munsiff JMIC Billawar, Shabnam Sheikh and Additional Spl. Mobile Magistrate, Billawar Rohit Sharma. Similarly at Bani, Lok Adalat bench consisted of JMIC Bani Aitzaz Ahmed & Tehsildar Bani Prem Lal.
A total 7850 cases were taken up in the National Lok Adalat, out of which 7750 cases were disposed of /settled including 16 MACT cases, 05 Matrimonial, 15 Civil suits, 19 Post- Litigation Bank case, 50 pre-litigation bank cases, 09 138 NI Act cases, 27 Criminal compoundable cases, 05 Land acquisition, 30 Electricity Bills, 1304 Traffic Challans etc and 6270 cases received from different departments.
Compensation worth Rs 10805000 was awarded in the MACT cases, a recovery of Rs. 5524285 was also made in favour of the Banks and a fine of Rs. 596350/- was also realized.
The National Lok Adalat was also held under the chairmanship of Yash Paul Bourney (Pr District & Sessions Judge Udhampur) and under the overall Supervision of Sub Judge, Rajni Sharma, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Udhampur in the Court complex Udhampur.
A total of 5 benches were constituted in the District and these were comprised of Yash Paul Bourney (Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur), Suresh Chander Katal (Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur), Advocate B.B Sharm, BA Munshi (CJM Udhampur), Shafeeq Ahmed (District Judicial Mobile Magistrate), Udhampur, Ashutosh Gupta Advocate, Preet Simran Kour (Sub Judge Special Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur), Maleeka Sharma ( Munsiff JMIC), Shallu Khajuria Advocate,, Sub Judge, Smriti Sharma Chairman TLSC Ramnagar, K.D.Sharma (Lawyer) TLSC Ramnagar, Madhu Sharma (Munsiff JMIC Majalta), Mohan Lal Gupta.
A total number of 1221 cases pertaining to different nature were taken up, Out of which 1077 cases were settled. An Amount of Rs 14980031 was also settled.
Meanwhile, National Lok Adalat was organized in District Court Complex Pulwama under the chairmanship of Ab. Rashid Malik, Pr District & Sessions Judge Pulwama.
A total number of 650 pre litigation matters were taken up amongst which 600 number of pre litigation matters pertaining to far-flung rural areas including Rajpora, Tral Pampore, were settled. Moreveover, total 4680 cases of different nature were taken up before these nine benches out of which 4230 cases were amicably settled and an amount of Rs. 95,18,270/- has been settled in MACT, Bank recovery & 138 N.I. Act cases.
