Nasir kicks well these days: Omar

SRINAGAR, Sept 3: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that he would make provincial president of his party, Nasir Aslam Wani, as goal keeper of the football team saying “he (Nasir) kicks well these days”.
In a quirk remark over Wani kicking a worker, Omar, while inaugurating the Astro Turf here said: “I would make Nasir as goal keeper of the football team as he (Nasir) kicks well these days”.
Chief Minister refused to talk to media over the issue, saying it was the matter of Nasir Wani.
And in the meantime, Wani defended his assault on a party worker in Ganderbal, saying even if he would have kicked somebody in the mayhem, nobody has got the injured.
“In order to control the crowd I along with some party leaders went down from the dais to control the crowd. In that mayhem I did swing my legs that may have hit somebody but nobody has got the injured,” Wani told reporters at TRC ground here.
Wani yesterday kicked a supporter of Ishfaq Jabbar, former Congress leader who joined NC last year, at the party’s one-day convention in Ganderbal.
“Wherever we (NC) go these days, such incidents take place. This is not the first time there was commotion in the convention. Till the final list is out, resentment could be seen at some places as party leadership had sought names of at least three probables from each Assembly segment,” said NC leader.
Wani said it is the inner party democracy that allows people to speak freely. “Yesterday party workers were divided over the mandate in Ganderbal as some workers were raising slogans in favour of an aspirant while other were chanting slogans in favour of the party,” he said.
“Nobody has come up with any complaint. If somebody will come, I will apologize to him,” he said.
In a similar incident today during an NC convention in old city’s Badamwari, the security guards of party MLA from Zadibal allegedly thrashed a party worker.
Majority of the party workers were not informed about the convention which infuriated some party workers who stormed into the room and complained before the General Secretary and provincial president of the party for intentionally keeping them away from the event.
They said after angry workers started raising slogans against MLA Zadibal, his security guards pounced upon one of the workers and thrashed him mercilessly.
And panic gripped among National Conference workers and security personnel today when the stage on which senior NC leader and Rural Development Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar was addressing people collapsed in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Scores of people mostly security personnel, party leaders and media persons were sharing the stage with Sagar when it collapsed suddenly.
Reports said that there was chaos among the people who started running for safety. Sagar was encircled by his security guards and was taken to a safer place.
