Narula reviews election preparedness

JAMMU, Mar 1: Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Umang Narula conducted a detailed review of preparedness of Electoral Machinery across the State for the forthcoming Parliament Elections, through video conferencing with all the District Election Officers (Deputy Commissioners) of both Jammu and Kashmir division, here today.
The main focus of the conference was poll preparedness in the State with CEO discussing a gamut of various issues pertaining to the elections including status of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), number of polling booths and their accessibility issues, manpower besides readiness of electoral material.
CEO directed the District Election Officers to make themselves familiar with provisions of Model Code of Conduct and send comprehensive/consolidated report on law and order, monitoring of Model Code of Conduct (MCC), video clipping regarding any election related incident, expenditure monitoring, static surveillance teams, status of flying squads on daily basis of their respective districts so that the same may be forwarded to Election Commission of India as per the guidelines.
He also stressed for continuous updation of electoral rolls and directed DEOs to expedite disposal process and give information about the number of forms received and disposed well before the announcement of polls by the Election Commission.
Mr. Narula also inquired from the respective Deputy Commissioners about the employee data base work, communication, transport, and security plans confronting polling booths including sensitive/ hypersensitive across the State.
He underscored the need to organize awareness camps and workshops regarding use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and asked the DEOs to create EVM awareness demonstration centres in their districts even at Panchayat level besides setting up of MCMC Centres. He also stressed to organize sensitization workshops with political parties to aware them about the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.
The District Election Officers apprised the Chief Electoral Officer about the number of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Booth Level Officer (BLOs) involved in the election process. The Deputy Commissioners assured Chief Election Officer that every effort is being made to intensify the election process for smooth, fair and free election in the State.
