Narkanda in HP gets season’s first snowfall, rainfall

SHIMLA : The tourist resort Narkanda at the height of 8885ft from the sea level received the season’s first spell of snowfall on Monday. The other high reaches of Shimla, Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra district also had moderate to heavy snowfall which is continuing since last evening.
With this, the draught-like condition and prolonged dry spell being faced by the state since last three months, came to an end.
A report arriving here said that tourist resort Narkanda of Shimla district recorded 30 to 35 cm snowfall (one feet) which partly affected vehicular traffic on Hindustan Tibet National Highway due to mounting of snow.
Resident of Shilgran Shantha village of Chopal Mr Kuldeep Chauhan told UNI that early snowfall on November 15 broke all records of past as 25 to 30 cm snowfall already had in the area.
As the people came out from their homes in early hours in the high reaches of Jubbal Kothkai, Chopal, Balson, Rohru and Kotkhai they found the hills, dales, houses and their fields covered in thick blanket of snow this morning.
Keylong of Lahaul Spiti has already two to three spells of snowfall along with other areas of district.
It is the first winter season when Lahaul Spiti district is not disconnected by the snow after having heavy snowfall on Rohtang pass which is called the gate way of district after Commissioning of all weather Rohtang tunnel recently.
Dhauladhar ranges of Kangra, Jalorijot of Kullu, Sachpass of Chamba, Lady of Keylong Seven sisters hill Goshal hill Baralacha and Kunzum pass of Kaza in Lahaul Spiti, Kinner Kailash of Kinnuar, Hatu, Chanshal pass, Dodra-kawar, Churdhar of Shimla and Haripur Dhar of Sirmuar also recorded snowfall which is continue since last night.
Tourist resorts Kufri in Shimla had seven cm snow and Manali also had light two cm snowfall and 20 mm rain
till 0830 hrs today. The Met office recorded 25 cm snowfall at Sangla in Kinnuar district, 20 cm each at Gondla of Lahaul Spiti & Kothi in Kullu, 18 cm in Khadrala of Shimla, Shilaro in Shimla and Koksar in Lahaul Spiti had 10 cm snowfall.

Kalpa in Kinnuar district had 5.6 cm snow, Keylong four cm.
Vehicular traffic is affected by snowfall on Hindustan Tibet National Highway at Narkanda and vehicular traffic was diverted via Mashobra to Rampur and Kinnuar district.
Superintendent of police Shimla Mr Mohit Chawla said that the road at Kharapatha was blocked due to 6″ snow fall Jubbal also had 2.5 cm snowfall. Snowfall disrupted landline phone service in the Jubbal and Kothkai area.

There are report of 15 cm snowfall at Kharapather and ten cm in Kiriki disrupting vehicular traffic to Kothkai and Chopal area of Shimla district.
Shali mount of Mashobra also got first snowfall of this season.
Tourist resort Dalhousie had 33 mm rain, Solan 27 mm, Shimla 21.6 mm, Jubberhati, Kufri, Seobagh in Kullu and Una 16 mm each, Palampur 15 mm, Dharmshala 12.6 mm, Bhuntar and Sundernagar 12.2 mm, Kangra 12 mm, Bilaspur 11.5 mm, Hamirpur and Mandi 11 mm each, Nahan nine mm, Chamba six mm and Kalpa two mm.
Due to ending of dry spell, it brings cheers on the faces of farmers as they could saw and till their farms for delayed Rabi crops in the middle hills.
Farmers are waiting keenly to have rainfall since last two months as draught-like condition is prevailing all over state.
Common man is likely to get reprieve with onset of winter rain or snowfall as prolonged cold -dry spell & dusts pollution was causing asthmatic allergy to people in the time of pandemic.
Early snowfall is also help the apple growers to start winter scheduled works in the orchard with gaining moisture content.
The early and good snowfall is considered white manure to apple crop as increase fertility of land and help in less dependence on pesticides with good chilly weather. (AGENCIES)
