JAMMU, July 4: SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has performed five more successful cochlear implant surgeries in congenitally deaf children.
This unique surgery is performed only in a few hospitals across the country. The five children, who underwent the procedure; were Master Taksh, Baby Priyanka, Master Rohit, Master Kamal and Master Priyansh. Four out of these 5 were provided financial assistance by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The surgeries were performed by the hospital’s surgical team, led by Padmashree Dr J M Hans (Delhi) and Dr Rohan Gupta, Consultant ENT from SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal while the anesthesia team included Dr Vanilla Chopra, Dr Trupti Modi and Dr Sarita Sharma (Consultant, Anesthesia)
“All these surgeries were carried out successfully, free from any complications and the children are in the Pediatric ICU under Dr Preeti Gupta (Consultant Pediatrics). All the candidates implanted till date at SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital are under regular follow up and structured rehabilitation, so that their performance status and improvement can be constantly monitored. “, said Dr Rohan Gupta.
The hospital has performed a total of nine such successful surgeries in last four months and plans to extend this noble venture to all those disadvantaged children who could benefit from implantation.
Dr (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer of the Hospital, said, “Based on the vision of the Chairman, SMVDSB, Governor, J&K, the Shrine Board has been continually helping the disadvantaged sections of society and committed to providing high quality healthcare services to the society at large. The present initiative is part of such commitments made on humanitarian grounds”.
Dr Hans appreciated the efforts of the Shrine Board and SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in bringing these children from a soundless past to a musical future.
