KOTTAYAM, May 30:
Keeping up its attack on the UDF government in Kerala, Nair community outfit NSS today decided to bring to an end to the “understanding” it had reached with the Congress before the assembly elections in 2011.
The NSS’ decision marks culmination of its year-long conflict with the UDF complaining that the interests of the majority community have been neglected by the ministry.
After a meeting of taluk-level office bearers of NSS at its headquarters at Perunna near here, the party general secretary G Sukumaran Nair told reporters the state Congress leadership was squarely responsible for “sabotaging” the understanding it had struck with the community organisation before the assembly polls.
He also blamed the central leadership for not “correcting” the state leaders.
“NSS has no politics. But the Congress being a national party, NSS has often co-operated with it. The state Congress leadership has sabotaged the understanding between the two and the party high command has refrained from taking action against the state leaders responsible for that. So, we are not going to enter into any dialogue with the state or central leadership to bring about a truce,” Nair said.
On the objections raised by UDF constituent Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to the induction of KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala in the ministry with the rank of Deputy Chief Minister, Nair said it was an issue of the ruling front.
He, however, hastened to add if NSS spelled out its opinion on that matter it would be dubbed as “communal stance”.
NSS as well as Ezhava community outfit SNDP Yogam have been on collision course with UDF for quite some time, charging it with pushing “minority appeasement” policy to survive in power.
The two outfits, both which have a network of branches across the state, recently called upon its nominees in the state-owned boards and corporations to resign in protest the government’s negative attitude towards them. (PTI)
