NEW DELHI: A stickler for discipline, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday asked members not to talk when obituary references are being made, asserting it sent a wrong message.
Soon after the House mourned the death of former member R Margabandu, Mr Naidu said he noticed that some MPs were engrossed in discussions when the obituary reference was being read by the Chair.
Proceedings began with the House mourning the death of R Margabandu on December 28 at the age of 83 years. An advocate, Margabandu represented Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha from July 1995 to 2001 July.
He was the leader in the House of the All India Anna Dravidra Munnetra Kaghazam .
”In the passing away of Margabandu, the country has lost a distinguished parliamentarian and a noted lawyer,” Mr Venkaiah Naidu said in his obituary reference. Members stood in silence briefly.
