JAMMU, Apr 9: Rajouri police today seized a stolen car abandoned by two suspects at Kalar, about 12 kilometers short of Rajouri, on the eve of Parliamentary elections with police not ruling out the angle of militancy as Rs 2 Pakistani coin was also recovered from it. However, some other angles were also being explored.
SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi said a white color Wagon R car No. HR51T 7698 was found abandoned at Kalar, about 12 kilometers short of Rajouri this morning. Two suspects travelling in the car had abandoned the vehicle after their suspicious movement was observed at Chingus.
Mr Latifi said police have launched a massive hunt for two persons travelling in the car but they had not been trace till late tonight.
He said 15 grams brown sugar and Rs 2 Pakistani coin were recovered from the car.
“We are working on various angles including the militancy. However, it could be an act of narcotics smugglers or cash being transported in the vehicle on the eve of elections. Things would be clear only when occupants of the car were arrested,’’ Mr Latifi said.
He added that owner of the car Sanjay Gupta of Shastri Nagar has claimed that his car had been stolen three days back. But, Mr Latifi said, Mr Gupta hadn’t lodged any FIR of the car theft. The car, he added, was registered on the name of one Shweta Kukreja wife of Deepak Kukreja R/o Shastri Nagar.
Police have registered a case for further investigations.
