Mula Ram, Chib demand free ration, Rs 10,000 per poor family

JAMMU, May 17: Former Minister Mula Ram and District Congress Committee Jammu ( R ) president, Th Hari Singh Chib have demanded 6 months free ration and Rs 10,000 per family in favour of poor and vulnerable sections of the society.
In a joint press statement these senior Congress leaders raised serious concern over the problems being faced by the J&K residents stranded outside and people who are under quarantine centres in J&K due to lack of facilities.
They appealed to the Government to evacuate the J&K residents stranded outside J&K as they have been going through tough times and are helpless due to lack of travelling facilities in view of COVID-19.
They asserted that the marginalised and vulnerable sections of J&K are in extremely dire straits. “Lakhs of migrant labourers are living in pathetic conditions. Their families in the villages are on the verge of starvation. Many households are becoming more and more indebted to meet their daily needs. There is scarcity of essential items and the prices have sky-rocketed,” they added.
The Cong leaders said that there are thousands of poor people belonging to the BPL but it’s unfortunate that they have not get their names registered in the ration card due to height of corruption in the J&K. He asked the Government to provide at least Rs 10,000 as cash assistance to the people belonged to the lower and middle class families along with 40 kg ration per family for six months or till the lockdown is over.
They also raised serious concern over the woes of poor labourers, daily wager and people belonging to the BPL. They said ration grains are not being distributed as yet in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, although there are massive food grain stocks in Central Government godowns. There are complaints of over-charging on essential commodities in which poor people are become the worst victims. They sought urgent steps to control the prices of all essential commodities.
They urged the Lt Governor to immediately provide doorstep delivery of free ration, vegetables, milk, drinking water, soaps, sanitisers and assured water supply for all vulnerable sections of society.
