JAMMU, May 13: The soulful recital of bhajans and sufiana kalam by Mukteshi Sharma emerged as the highlight of Devotional Music Programme held at the K L Saigal Hall, here today.
Today’s program was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, with the aim to promote folk and classical music by providing platform to young and senior artistes. The participating local amateur practioners of semi classical and classical music who gave an impressive display of their talents included Sourav Sharma, Mamta Raina, Mukteshi Sharma and Ramesh Joshi from Indore.
Mukteshi Sharma started her performance with a Ram bhajan in which the lyrics ‘Shri Ram Chander Kriplau’ were composed in raag Yaman Kalyan while the Sufiana kalam ‘ Sare Behre Aa Ja Subh-o-Sham was in raag Bhopali. The renditions by the greatly young talent exhibiting a great range of emotions came out to be spiritual treat for the audience who enjoyed it immensely. She was accompanied on harmonium by her father and guru Ashu Sharma.
The others accompanists were Karan Malhotra on tabla, Rakesh Masih on flute and Bishan Dass on harmonium.
Earlier in her welcome address, Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, said that it was the mandate of the Academy to patronize and promote all native arts, languages and literature in order to ensure continuity of rich tradition tangible and intangible cultural heritage. She also gave details about future programs including the Poetic Symposium being held tomorrow on 14th May to pay tributes to late Hemant Sathe, Dogri writer and activist.
Today program was conducted by Dr Sudhir Mahajan, SOCA Gr -1, and the overall in charge of the program.
