Mufti ordered release of separatists, believes in talks: PDP

SRINAGAR :  Admitting that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had ordered the release of separatists leaders after they were put under house arrest a couple of days ago, ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came down heavily on the opposition for being childish and non-serious about  Indo-Pak talks on different issues.
Relations between India and Pakistan have direct impact on the people of Jammu and Kashmir,  PDP Chief Spokesperson Dr Mehboob Beg said in a statement here today.
He said that the reactions that have come-in from the Opposition smack of immaturity and cynicism.
Dr Beg said that as soon as the arrest of the ‘seperatists’ came to the knowledge of the Chief Minister, he immediately ordered their release, strengthening and further showing his commitment and constant stand that ‘talks and talks alone’ is the way-out.
All separatist leaders, including Chairman of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) were put under house arrest or arrested on August 19 after they were invited by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit for holding talks with Prime Minister’s Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz.
However, the separatist leaders, barring Syed Ali Shah Geelani were released after few hours. The National Security Advisor (NSA) level talks between India and Pakistan which were slated for today have since been cancelled.
Dr Beg pointed-out that some ‘vested interests” and a well known Media channel had whipped-up a frenzy and created immense hysteria instead of serving as a medium which would have create a conducive atmosphere for the National Security Advisor (NSA) level talks to take place.
War Mongerers as well as ”Kashmir and Pakistan bashers” have time and again indulged in creation of an atmosphere of hatred which does not help in any manner whatsoever, Dr Beg said.
He also said that the Mr Sayeed led coalition Government believes constant talks till the desired results are achieved and added that even the complex ‘K issue’ was nearly clinched with the emergence of the ‘four point formula’ and the positive developments are like opening-up of the Muzafarrabad Road and the Poonch ?Rawlakote Road.
Such assertion and commitment is what is needed from a Chief Minister and it was a pleasant departure from the conduct of the previous government when it had become nearly impossible to keep even the schools and colleges open and Kashmir was constantly subjected to a ‘?urfew like’ situation on the diktats of the Union Home Ministry, the party Chief Spokesperson said.
He advised the opposition to play a positive and constructive role to help build a peaceful atmosphere rather than childishly concentrating on ”Tennis match” like scenarios. (AGENCIES)
