MSME Development Institute organizes awareness program on IPRs

RAJOURI, Oct 6: One day awareness and sensitization programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) was organized today by MSME Development Institute (J&K), Government of India, Ministry of MSME, at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU).
Aim and objective of the programme was to sensitize the research scholars, young innovative technical minds, potential entrepreneurs and the faculty members about the Intellectual Property Rights.
The programme was chaired by Prof AK Koul, Dean, Academic Affairs, Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri. While delivering his inaugural address, Prof Koul stressed on need and importance of Intellectual Property Rights in today’s context and highlighted how the IPR has been used for commercial gain.
While delivering about the aim and objective of the programme, Virinder Sharma, Director, MSME Development Institute (J&K) informed that Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the intellect for which a monopoly is assigned to designated owners by law.
In his presentation, Prof Dr G Mohiuddin Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science & Technology, University of Kashmir, Hazaratbal, Srinagar deliberated on topics like overview of IPR, types of IPR, Legislative and regulation frame work in India, introduction to patent law, steps to be taken before filing patent – Examining Prior Art, tools and techniques of Prior Art search, process of filling patent, etc.
Rahul Taneja, Scientist, Patent Information Centre, Haryana State Council for Technology, Panchkula, Haryana, deliberated on awareness on  pre-grant opposition and post grant opposition, infringement, doctrine of equivalence, commercialization of Patent, Licensing Agreement, drafting, provision and complete specification, awareness on trade mark, etc.
After the presentation by both the expert guest faculty, an open house discussion was held in which the participants raised various queries, which were replied by the faculty to the satisfactions of the participants.
