LEH, July 31: The Member of Parliament Ladakh (MP) Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in presence of Chief Engineer Vijayak Brigadier Amit Singh Sohal (VSM) inaugurated a bridge on Zanskar river.
Zanskar Lungnak Cha Constituency Councillor Stanzin Lakpa, Maj Rana Ravinder Singh OC 126 RCC (GREF), Captain Siramjot Singh OIC Kilima Dett, Zanskar SDM Sonam Dorjay, ZBA and Zanskar Gonpa Association representative were also present during the inauguration.
A group of bikers “Shamass Riders” with 9 bikes and number of light motor vehicles also crossed the bridge soon after the inauguration.
With the inauguration of this bridge on Zanskar river at “Chorten Rangjon” area, the people of Zanskar can travel to Leh via Singay la pass in 10 hours. Earlier, people of Zanskar have to cover a long distance of 440 kilometres via Kargil and it takes almost two days to reach Padum the capital of Zanskar but now the distance is reduced by 160 kilometres. This bridge will benefit number of villages which includes Photoksar, Lingshed, Yulchungs, Nyeraks, Skumpata which remains cut off from Leh city during winter months.
Expressing their immense pleasure over completion of “Shamsher Singh Bridge” on Zanskar River, the people of Zanskar gave a warm reception to MP Ladakh on his arrival in Zanskar.
MP assured to blacktop the Wanla-Lingshed-Padum road within two years which connect Leh to Zanskar via newly inaugurated Shamsher Singh Bridge. He also assured to complete Neemo-Padum-Darcha road during his tenure. He also added that official announcement of Zanskar District is in the pipeline but due to COVID-19 it has been delayed.
Zanskar Cha Councilor Stanzin Lakpa demanded the Government to speed up the work on all time weather road Neemo-Padum-Darcha to stay connected with Leh round the year.
A resident of Zanskar Tsering Yangchan said that bridge on Zanskar river reduces the Leh-Padum journey by day which will benefit the people of Zanskar particularly students, tourist and patients travelling to Leh. She expressed her hope that in future Zanskar will have round the year road connectivity to stay connected with Leh.
