Motorcyclist knocked to death by truck

JAMMU, July 7: A motorcyclist was killed today after being hit by a speeding truck in Bathindi area of city outskirts.
According to police sources, a youth namely Surjit Singh (32) son of Gambhir Singh, resident of Bakshi Nagar, was riding on a bike (registration number JK02A-9920) on Kunjwani Byepass Road from Narwal towards Kunjwani when a speeding truck bearing registration number JK03C-3156 hit his two-wheeler, leading to his on the spot death. The mishap occurred around 10 in the morning.
On getting information about the tragic accident, a team of police post Bathindi reached the spot and shifted the body of the deceased to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where after postmortem, it was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites.
A case in this connection was registered under relevant sections of the IPC in concerned police station and the accused truck driver namely Gulzar Ahmed son of Mohd Ismail of Anantnag, was arrested. Both the vehicles involved in the mishap were also seized by the police.
