More narcotics worth Rs 17 lakh recovered from arrested drug peddler

REASI, Jan 14: Further interrogation of a notorious drug peddler, who was arrested on January 9, has led to recovery of more narcotics of market worth Rs 17 lakh.
Police have so far seized 376 rolls of cannabis, weighing about 6.4 kg, worth Rs 18 lakhs and Rs 14.45 lakh cash as drug proceeds on the disclosure of Bashir Ahmed, son of Sharief, resident of Chak Bhagta, Katra, who was arrested on January 9. Rs 14.35 lakh proceeds of drug crime along with 26 rolls of cannabis were earlier recovered from his possession.
As already reported by the Excelsior, the accused was on way from Manthal to Kakriyal, riding a Scooty (JK20B-4527) when he was stopped by Police party at naka Sool Kakriyal. During checking, 10 rolls of cannabis along with Rs 2 lakh cash were recovered from the possession of the accused. A case FIR number 07/2022, under section 8, 20, 25 NDPS Act was registered in this connection at Police Station Katra.
During preliminary interrogation, Bashir further disclosed that he had collected Rs 12.35 lakh more money after selling drugs to the youth and the same was kept in his house. On his disclosure, Police team along with Executive Magistrate (Naib Tehsildar Panthal) raided and recovered drug money of Rs 12.35 lakh along with more rolls of cannabis from his house. Thus a total of Rs 14.35 lakh drug money and 26 rolls of cannabis were seized in the case.
“Further investigation into the case led to the recovery of 350 more rolls of cannabis and the Police have so far seized 6.4 kg cannabis worth Rs 18 lakh besides drug proceeds in the forms of Rs 14,35 lakh cash,” said SSP Reasi, Shailender Singh, adding that accused Bashir is a notorious drug peddler of the area, who was earlier remained involved in drug peddling case FIR number 22/2020, under section 8, 20, 29 NDPS Act of Police Station Reasi and has been facing trial in the case.
Terming the recovery a big success, SSP Shailender Singh said that the accused is still being put to sustain questioning and more recoveries in the case cannot be ruled out while those involved in illegal distribution networks and backward linkages of source of supply of banned drug shall also be booked in the case by exploring all possible evidences.
