BARAMULLA, Dec 11: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) held a day-long workers meeting, here today, where the participants expressed concern over the deteriorating power supply in the Valley.
The meeting, presided over by the JKPCC Vice President and former MLC G N Monga, was attended by other senior party leaders from district Barmaulla.
Addressing the meeting, Monga expressed serious concern over the power supply position in the valley which has worsened in this harsh winter.
“With the onset of winter, the unscheduled and extended power cuts have aggravated the woes of people in Kashmir. In both metered and non-metered areas in Kashmir, prolonged and unscheduled power cuts have caused anguish among people who are facing inconvenience with dip in mercury,” he said.
The JKPCC Vice President urged the administration to ensure that people get power supply according to schedule and no unscheduled power cuts happen.
He also urged the workers to gear up to make the visit of veteran Congress leader and former J&K Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad to Baramulla a grand success. “As part of his outreach prorgamme, Azad Sahib will be soon visiting Baramulla and I am sure that you will be ready to make the programme a grand success,” he told party workers and leaders.
“Azad Sahab’s contributions to strengthen Congress in J&K are immense. During his less than three-year tenure as Chief Minister of J&K, Azad Sahib took some revolutionary decisions to bring socio-economic transformation back on the rails in the State,” Monga added.
He said that Congress was the only party in the country which could counter communal forces. “Congress is the only party that could provide secular, democratic rule in the country. The party fought for India’s independence and the Constitution was framed on the Preamble of a socialist secular democratic republic,” he pointed out.
