NEW DELHI, Nov 17: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said today that the Modi Government is firm and decisive in dealing with terrorism and, unlike the earlier Governments, its Kashmir approach is based on clarity, consistency and conviction.
Just to cite an example, he said, as per the figures available, stone pelting incidents in the Kashmir valley have come down by 90% after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation announcement on 8th November last year, which is also a vindication of the fact that terror activities in Kashmir valley were largely because of mercenary funding.
Addressing the valedictory function of 6th International Conference and Exhibition on “Homeland Security” here today, Dr Jitendra Singh said the single-most credit in gaining decisive upper hand in anti-militancy operations goes to the clear directions from the top, without any ambiguity, as in the past.
In response to a query, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the PEW International research findings testifying that 70% Indians hail the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and over 60% of them endorse his Kashmir approach, is, in fact, a vindication of all that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands for. He said, the common youth of Kashmir is as much aspirational as youth in any other part of India and does not wish to lose the opportunities provided by the Modi Government in the last three years.
Lashing out at the so-called social activists and so-called intellectuals, Dr Jitendra Singh said, in the early years of militancy these wise-worthies had a free run but now public opinion across the country is in favour of upholding the nationalist and patriotic ethos which has pushed these so-called intellectuals on the back-foot. He said, it is surprising that even when the most developed democracies of the world including UK and USA have drawn the bottom lines of national security and homeland security, in India an unnecessary and avoidable debate is sought to be manufactured by some vested elements.
With the rapidly advancing technology, Dr Jitendra Singh cautioned that the future strategies will have to be kept updated with the newer methods likely to be adopted by the perpetrators of terrorism and their foreign sponsors from across the border. He also referred to the prospect of cyber mischief as a means of creating terrorism.
Former Director CID and DG CRPF D R Kaarthikeyan, N C Asthana DGP Moderationsation Kerala, Major General Oberoi (Retd.) Defence Consultant among others also spoke on the occasion.
