SRINAGAR, Nov 19: As a part of the ongoing Post Office transformation plan in the State a modern Post Office was today dedicated to the public by John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu and Kashmir Circle at Dooru in Anantnag.
Speaking on the occasion, the CPMG said the Dooru Post Office is the first Post Office to be modernized in the Anantnag district, adding the department has plans to modernize maximum number of Post Offices in the district during the current financial year. He announced that modernized Verinag Post Office will be dedicated to public in the next month.
The CPMG said that Verinag and Dooru are quite popular among tourists and the modern post Offices will showcase Dooru and Verinag as tourist destinations. He announced new mail van services linking Dooru with Srinagar, adding that the mail van will also connect Verinag, Qazigund and Dialgam Post Offices.
The CPMG announced that more Gramin Dak Sevak staff will be recruited in the Anantnag district so that Post Office is able to provide better services to the people. He said the Postal Department has a plan to construct modern post office buildings at district headquarters and tehsil headquarters.
The modern Post Office at Dooru will function from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will provide all facilities like Registered Post, Speed Post, Savings Bank and Insurance facilities. He announced that Dooru Post Office will also start sale of gold coins. It has also been provided with ‘Post Shop’ facilities also.
