The mock drill on the much hyped and long waited to be made operational, Jammu Ropeway Project unfortunately consumed two precious lives besides injuring four. The rescue trolley titled while the mock drill was going on and the inmates fell down near Mahamaya Temple under the jurisdiction of Bagh-e- Bahu Police Station. The two deceased were from Bengal and Bihar states respectively while the four injured from Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are presently undergoing treatment in the Government Medical College and Hospital.
The Governor has expressed grief over the loss of the lives and while announcing ex-gratia relief of Rs. 5 lakhs to the next of kin of the killed has also ordered a magisterial enquiry into the causes of the mishap. The Jammu Ropeway Project planned to boost tourism in the winter capital has definitely got a jolt with this tragedy when preparations were being made to run it formally shortly much before the end of the current month as it had jumped timeframe many a time. It had claimed that security and safety norms had meticulously been kept in top consideration while designing and constructing this project laden with much hopes and enthusiasm. It may be noted that the Ropeway Project is slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 3.
