JAMMU:  The mobile Internet services have been snapped in this winter capital of the state after an alleged sacrilegious act.

“Mobile Internet services were snapped last night,” a senior police official here today said.

He said,”the services were snapped after an alleged sacrilegious act was reported last evening in Channi Himmat area.”

The police official added that an action has been initiated to prevent rumour mongers and anti-social elements from spreading hatred on the social media.

He said after monitoring some of the posts and pictures on social media about an alleged sacrilegious act by some trouble shooters, the speed of Internet service was slowed down and later suspended.

“Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is also arriving here this afternoon and we do not want such elements to take advantage and create problem in the city, so mobile service has temporarily been suspended,” said the official.

Meanwhile, snapped Internet services have affected people especially the traders fraternity who are operating their business online through smart phones.

“The services are likely to be restored by late this evening,” the official said and added that broadband and Wifi services were operational. (AGENCIES)
