Mobile internet services remain suspended, BSNL broadband affected

SRINAGAR: Mobile internet services of different cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) limited, remained suspended for the third day today in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar.
However, the BSNL broadband was also affected in many areas, including Budshah Nagar, Natipora as technical staff in the Sanant Nagar telephone exchange were not available badly affecting students, professionals and doctors.
Mobile internet service of all companies went off the air for security reasons as the authorities had apprehension that the service could be used to organise protests against the killing of four civilians in the frontier district of Kupwara.
However, suspension of the service evoked widespread condemnation as it has affected lakhs of users. Meanwhile, the customers of BSNL broadband, particularly in the uptown areas connected with Sanant Nagar telephone exchange, were taken for a ride by the department.
”Our broadband service is not working for the past four days,” the customers of Budshah Nagar, Natipora alleged. They said despite taking the matter with the concerned officials of the exchange, nothing has been done.
However, when some customers visited the exchange, they were told that the concerned technical staff of broadband was not attending the office because of strike and holidays.
This has however, badly affected professionals, including mediapersons, doctors, students. The internet service of Community Network Service (CNS) also went off the air badly affecting media organisations, administration and security forces, including police. The system has been closed beyond Srinagar, an official of the CNS said.
