MLAs to oversee impact of centrally sponsored schemes

JAMMU, July 29: The meeting of Vigilance & Monitoring Committee of Jammu district was held here today under the chairmanship of Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, to review the progress on various schemes funded by Union Ministry of Rural Development.
MLAs Ashok Khajuria, Jugal Kishore, Choudhary Sham Lal, Sukhnandan Choudhary, Garu Ram, Bharat Bhushan, Indu Pawar, Sarpanchs representing all blocks of Jammu district, besides the district officers of implementing departments attended the meeting.
District Development Commissioner, Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu gave a detailed account of allocation and achievements for the year 2012-13 besides the funds made available by Government of India under various sectors for the current year.
He informed the meeting that against an amount of Rs 145.50 crore made available under MG-NREGA, IAY, SGSY, DRDA (adm), PMGSY, IWMP (haryali), National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), Total Sanitation Campaign (Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan), National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and Mid-day-Meal Scheme Rs 141.40 crore was expended during the year 2012-13. In the year 2013-14 against availability of Rs.35.20 crore, an amount of Rs.26.85 crore stand utilized on the schemes.
He further informed that under the flagship MG-NREGA, an amount of Rs.64.23 crore was spent, while Rs 6.06 crore was spent under IAY. It was further revealed that Rs 33.18 crore was spent under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and Rs.14.24 crore under NRHM in the district.
The members of the committee asked the concerned departments to create mass awareness about the schemes being implemented by them so that their benefits percolate down to the targeted lot.
The meeting decided that the MLAs and members of committee would conduct field visit to oversee the impact of various centrally sponsored schemes of Union Ministry of Rural Development, other schemes as well. On the basis of the feedback, so received by the committee in the departments would take corrective measures wherever required to improve upon their functioning to the level of public satisfaction.
The members of the committee stressed on the involvement of Panchayati Raj Institution at all levels of implementation of these schemes. They said that it will help to ensure need based development.
The MP Madan Lal impressed upon the officers to work hard and frame comprehensive projects for augmentation of drinking water supply in water stressed areas, renovation and development of community ponds, recharging of water resources and forward the same to Govt. of India for financial assistance.
He assured his full support and cooperation to get these projects sanctioned from Govt. of India.
He also asked the PMGSY to expedite the execution on the under construction roads taken up by the department especially in the far flung areas.
The MP further impressed upon the officers to conduct regular tour of the far off areas and ensure close monitoring of the projects to ensure use of quality material and time bound completion of the schemes.
