MLAs express concern over non-allotment of funds to contractors under SDRF

SRINAGAR: Members from Treasury and Opposition benches today expressed concern in the Legislative Assembly over non-allotment of funds to the contractors who were assigned work under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) following September 2014 floods.

As soon as Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari replying to a question stated that there is a liability of Rs 201 crore on the department for the work done under SDRF, CPI (M) Member Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said, ”what is the fault of the contractors and labourers who worked on these projects as they still haven’t received their payments from last one-and-a-half-year.”

He asked the Government to give a time frame in which the payments will the released. Main opposition National Conference member Mian Altaf Ahmed shared sentiments expressed by Mr Tarigami and asked the Government to release outstanding payment of the contractors under SDRF as soon as possible.

“People have been moving from pillar to post to get their funds released. Now they have been told that the liabilities under SDRF will be transferred to another scheme, we would like to know what that scheme is and when will it be transferred,” he said. (AGENCIES)
