MLA, DDC visit flood affected areas, take stock of damages

KATRA, Sept 21: To assess the damages caused by the incessant rains and flash floods at Katra, base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and to supervise the relief and restoration work, MLA Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma and District Development Commissioner, Reasi Shabir Ahmad Bhatt today visited different parts of the Katra including Railway Station, Main Bazaar, Bus Stand, Yatra Registration Counter, Banganga Road, Reasi Road, Arli and Chorsu.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Tilk Raj Shastri besides officers from PWD, PHE, PDD, I&FC and CA&PD, Municipality also accompanied during the visit.
At various places, the DDC took stock of damages caused by the flash floods and directed all the concerned officers to assess the losses for providing relief to the affected people. He also inspected the restoration work on different roads and bridges and officers of R&B were given instructions regarding the immediate restoration of road connectivity.
DDC also directed the concerned officers to ensure speedy and timely restoration of essential services and supplies so that people may not face any further problems. He also enquired from the officials of CA&PD about the stock of available essential commodities and stressed that the immediate and adequate supply of ration and other essential commodities must be ensured to the affected people.
He interacted with several affected families at various locations and assured them that all possible help and assistance will be provided to them.
During the tour he also directed the EO Municipality Katra to submit estimate for the redressal of damage to drains and lanes in Katra to repair them on priority, ahead of Navaratri. He also reviewed the restoration of drinking water supply in the area and directed Xen PHE to ensure restoration of all the water supply schemes. The restoration of power supply is also being supervised by the DDC and Xen PDD has been asked to ensure effective and durable restoration of power supply to the affected areas.
