JAMMU, Jan 7: Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoJK (MJR-47), has expressed its gratitude to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for having given due consideration to the representation made before them on the long sufferings of DP’s of 1947 and making recommendations by and large in line with our demands.
In a meeting of the refugees’ body held here today, its members said that the said committee has tried to make it time bound and suggested to give relief of cash within a period of one year. It is expected that the present dispensation at the Centre will accept the recommendations forthwith and take measures to ensure their implementation to mitigate the sufferings of DP families for the last 67 years.
The tag of refugees/DP attached with the families who could escape in the tribal raid of 1947 are living in third and fourth generation now after lapse of more than six decades. Therefore, they have been demanding that the relief or compensation be given on the basis of the families as these exist now and not only on the basis of their registration at the time of migration in 1947, which will be highly unjustified. “We do hope that the Home Ministry will be taking realistic view on this demand,” they said.
As regards admission of wards of DPs of 1947 families in technical institution the necessary action needs to be taken forthwith so that we also avail of the fruit of independence after six decades. Valley Migrants have since been availing this facility and have been greatly benefitted, whereas, we have been deprived so far despite the fact that most of the seats in reserved quota for Kashmir migrants remains unutilized.
One major cause of our suffering has been the political alienation of PoJK refugees. “We highly appreciate that our long pending demand of allocating 8 Assembly seat out 24 seats kept frozen for voters from PoK has been well taken and has been recommended, “they added.
The meeting was convened by JS Sudan convener, MJR-47, and attended by Suchwant Singh, Om Parkash Khajuria, Dr Padam Dev Raina, KL Sudan, Raj Kumar Sharma, Jaswant Singh, Jagbir Singh (Kathua) and Bodh Raj Sharma.
Meanwhile, Refugees Sangarsh Morcha (RSM), led by Narinder Singh welcomed the recommendations of 31-member JPC and hoped that both State and Central Government would act on the visionary report and provide justice to the PoJK , West Pakistan and Chhamb refugees without any further delay.
