JAMMU, Nov 26: The play Padaav, based on Vikram Sharma’s abstract script proved to be a failed production due to the feeble acting by greenhorns/first-timers apparently with no or very little experience of theatre.
Further, the miscast of young and adolescent actors for an abstract story-about different shades of woman who wants to be treated as a person rather than an object of desire-imparted a comic feel to the play which otherwise in its earlier productions in the winter capital by matured and seasoned actors had managed to leave an impact.
Today’s play that came as a drag for the ongoing Annual Theatre Festival, has also raised questions about the J&K Cultural Academy’s selection process and the judges who okayed such a weak production to be staged in the Jammu’s annual theatre festival considered as a barometer of serious theatre movement in the State.
Staged under the banner of Society for Environment and Modern Art, the play was directed by Mousami Thakyal, who along with Komal Shangloo and Muskan Sharma enacted alternately various roles like Ladaki, Kalpana, Divya, Bharti, Maya, and Nandani. Other members of the cast included Rohit Saini in multiple roles as Ladka, Abhilash, Rahul, Azad, Aman Sharma as Shekhar and Ansh Bandral as Nandu.
Next performance of the ongoing Annual Theatre Festival, Balraj Bakshi’s ‘Kanoon Shikan’ will be staged under the direction of Dilshad Ahmed by Nav Durga Kala Manch on November 29, 2018.
