MUMBAI: Director Mira Nair’s forthcoming drama “Queen of Katwe” will have her son, Zohran Mamdani’s soundtrack.
The film, which is set to release in India on October 7, will feature a cutting-edge Afrobeat soundtrack curated by Mira’s son, who is also a Ugandan rapper.
Zohran took inspiration for its music from the Katwe streets to immerse the audience in the modern sound of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.
He is the music supervisor on “Queen of Katwe” along with Linda Cohen, who has previously worked in the Oscar-winning film “Argo”, Daniel Day-Lewis-starrer “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master”.
The film, which stars Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo and newcomer Madina Nalwangas, is based on real-life events and chronicles the inspiring story of an underdog from the streets of rural Uganda.
“Queen of Katwe” also had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10. (AGENCIES)
