SRINAGAR, July 2: Minister for Tourism, Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Mir today inaugurated five tourism developmental projects besides laying foundations of 8 similar facilities in Dooru and Verinag areas.
At Kulamchinar, the Minister inaugurated Rs. 1.27 crore wayside facilities and a park while at Verinag he dedicated bus stand to the people, completed at a cost of Rs. 1.44 crore. He also inaugurated light motor vehicle parking and cafeteria costing Rs. 3.52 crore besides a dormitory at Mehmoodgami Park at Mehmoodabad.
The Minister also laid foundations of various tourism developmental projects involving total cost of Rs 12 crore in the area. These include development and beautification of Lookbawan temple, development and reconstruction of ZiyaratHajidedi Shrine at Kree, walking way at Noodra , construction of 13 kiosks , tourist huts, TRC building and budgeted accommodation at Verinag besides development of Shiv temple at Omah at Verinag.
The Minister after inaugurating several tourism developmental projects addressed a gathering at Verinag. He reiterated that all round development of the area is priority of the Government, adding that a number of projects are apace under core sectors to improve and upgrade the basic amenities with focused attention for providing better road connectivity to the Kandi and remote areas of Dooru and Verinag.
Tourism Minister said that the vast tourism potential of the area is being taped and efforts are on to divert high end tourists to the visit of historical Verinag besides vicinity serene, adventure and pilgrim places. He said that Rs 26 crore tourism projects have been taken up during last over four years in the area to upgrade tourist related infrastructure adding that development of pilgrimage sites in the area also received focused attention.
Mir said that Verinag and Dooru towns would be developed on tourist lines for which State Government has prioritized a project report of Rs. 5 crore for Centre funding. He said that every potential spot of Verinag, Dooru would be brought on tourism map of the country.
Responding to the demands of the people, the Minister said that being a public representative of the area his priority has always been to give focused attention to all around development of the area. He said though lot has been done in this regard yet there is need to do more on this front. He said efforts are on to upgrade basic facilities especially in Kandi and Hilly areas of the constituency under various State and Central Plans.
The Minister called upon people not to heed to false propaganda of vested interests whose sole motive remains to create wedge in development process of the state. He appealed them to continue their wholehearted support to the Government for making Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous and peaceful State.
