MENDHAR, May 14: A minor girl studying in a Madarassa at Poonch and returning home along with domestic servant, was allegedly raped by a Sumo driver in Gursai area of tehsil Mendhar in district Poonch last night.
While a relative of the driver, has been arrested by Gursai police, the driver Tarez Ahmed Khan, son of Haji Zamoohrat Khan, resident of Harni was absconding along with his vehicle bearing registration of JK-12/ 5598. He is said to be a deserter from CRPF. The police registered a case FIR No. 33/ 2014 under Section 376/109 RPC against him. His relative Mohd Rafiq, son of Alam Din, resident of Nakka Majari, who helped the accused to give shelter and facilitated in the offence has been arrested.
The incident took place when 14-year-old Zahida (name changed), resident of Keri Galuta was returning home from Poonch. The girl studies in a Madarassa at Poonch and stays in hostel there. Her parents sent some items to their daughter and their domestic servant went to deliver these items. The girl expressed her desire to visit home and both boarded a bus from Poonch and reached Surankote last evening. The dusk had started to set in and they had to catch a Sumo for Ker Galuta. A Sumo driver, asked them where to go and asked both to board his Sumo. The servant, a frail and weak and most simple person could not understand the intentions of the young driver.
On the way, he stopped the vehicle on road side at an isolated place and told them that he would return after attending call of nature. He took over one hour and it had become total dark. The driver did not pick up any other passenger as well. On the way he diverted the vehicle towards Nakka Majari on the plea that it was too late to travel in this militancy belt at night and offered them to stay at his uncle’s house for night with the assurance to drop them tomorrow morning. During night, he committed rape on the girl and escaped early morning. The girl reached home this morning and narrated the matter to the family. The parents reached Police Station and narrated the matter. The police nabbed the so called uncle of the driver and started search for the absconding driver. He was still untraced. The girl was sent for Medical examination and will be produced before the judge/ Magistrate for statement tomorrow.
